This song was already part of the show when it had it's 2009 pre-Broadway premiere in Chicago, and has been a solid cornerstone of the modern rep ever since. The song requires a mix of deadpan comedic timing and explosive vocal energy to really sell the absolute panic she feels about falling in love. It gives a singer a playground to make distinct physical acting choices while navigating the bouncy melodic lines.
🎹 Thoughts From the Bench: I used to be the pianist for a private voice studio in Georgia and played this song hundreds of times. This isn't helpful collaborative info, just a fun fact. It's my description, I can relive the past if I want to. Finally played the whole show a couple years ago and was surprised how early on this tune is. Also another side note, but I was reading about how the intro song for the ensemble used to be a darker number in Chicago pre-broadway shows ("Clandango"), that was replaced with "When You're an Addams" for the New York premieres in 2010, so now I'm curious and want to track down music for the earlier version!
