A custom streaming practice/rehearsal piano track for Do not go, my love,
by Richard Hageman.

A deeply dramatic and romantic art song setting of Rabindranath Tagore's poetry, this piece is a lesser-heard gem. Written in 1917,  Hageman perfectly captures the pleading and intense emotion of Tagore's text through sweeping melodic lines and dense harmonic structures.

🎹 Thoughts From the Bench: Personally, every time I play this I always have to remember how to divvy up the ending between the hands 😅. This is a great piece to mention a concept that you probably are already aware of, but makes the ensemble in this easier once you've internalized the idea: Generally speaking, when piano is rolling chords, "time" starts when the final note of a rolled chord is played. In earlier eras of music or brisker pieces that we want to stay in time, we 'steal' a little time BEFORE the beat so that the final top note of a rolled chord is played right ON the beat. However, in more lugubrious music like this, I don't necessarily want to start the rolled chord early (adds to much energy to the pickups), so I just stretch as needed, and then the actual BEAT happens with the final top note of the roll and we go on in time from there.
