In the same tradition of Gilbert and Sullivan's original ironic setting, "With Cat-Like Tread" features a band of pirates supposedly sneaking onto Major-General Stanley's estate with absolute silence, while simultaneously singing at the absolute top of their lungs and stamping their feet. The 2025 Broadway adaptation by Rupert Holmes retains this brilliant central joke, where the sheer volume of the "sneaking" gives them away immediately. Get it? They're sneaking, but the orchestra and the ensemble are actually making a ton of noise? Ehh? EH?? Good stuff.
