Rupert Holmes brought a fresh, modern theatricality to the beloved 1879 Gilbert and Sullivan operetta with this 2025 adaptation. This song deviates in style from the original a little more than some of the other tunes, so it's a fun piano part to tackle.
🎹 Thoughts From the Bench: I didn't know this adaptation/rework existed until recently! A fun twist on one of the most well-trod operettas - I've subbed as a rehearsal pianist for a couple productions of Pirates over the years and have played some of the hits a whole bunch of times, so it's funny to be cruising through familiar territory only to be suddenly hit with some modern musical theater walking bass and comping. I should go record the parallel 'original' versions for comparison, super fun project.
