As we hit the midway point of the Six Elizabethan Songs cycle, Argento uses a classic Shakespeare text to paint a cynical picture of the freezing cold. The music completely sheds the floating beauty of the previous movement in favor of angular melodies and aggressive articulations that mimic shivering and chattering teeth. SUPER fun piano part to play, and these two 'season' movements (Spring and Winter) are the ones that I have played the most for standalone juries and studio classes and what have you.
